Kandy Dance

01) Kandy Dance is one of the main dance traditions in Sri Lanka. 

02) This dance is prevalent in the regions of Sath Korale, Saathara Korale, Kandy and Hewaheta.

03)  The main musical instrumet used in this is the Geta Bera. 

04) There are 18 wannam in this tradition. The main dance items in this tradition include, 

                     💃 Wes Dance

                     💃Pantheru Dance

                     💃Udekki Dance 

05) The main costume used in this is the wes costume.

06) The main ritual associated with this is the Kohomba Kankariya.

07) Kandy dance  is a renowned dance tradition, famous not only in Sri Lanka but also worldwide. 

08) The Kandyan dance is performed not only by men but also by women.

My name is Aloka Bimanti Muhandiram, and I'm 23 years old. I'm from Kuliyapitiya, a small town in Sri Lanka. I attended Vishaka Balika Vidyalaya, Kuliyapitiya for my school education. Dance has been my passion, and it's transformed my life. I'm now a diploma holder in dance from the University of Vishual and performing Arts, and I conduct dance classes at home.
